Best Ironings name came about as my daughter (Paige) who I love dearly said that you want to be the best ironing service so you should be called Best Ironing. This is a reminder to me to always be looking for ways to improve and give our customers the best experience that we can.
From leaving school I have had quite a few different roles all involved in giving service to the public. Starting out in bar work I became obsessed on making sure that my customers experience was the best that they could get. Very quickly at the age of eighteen I was put on various courses with the brewery that I worked for and was told that the day I turned 21 they would be handing me keys to my own pub.
One of our regular customers managed a very formal menswear store and he offered to train me in sales and clothing but not to just put clothes and suits out for sale but to learn everything I could about various fabrics and cuts. In this store there was a men’s wedding suit hire department which was the busiest in the city, and so once confident in retail I asked if I could work in this department and learn everything about this industry and the way that clothes should be cleaned and pressed.
I really enjoyed working in that industry because it had two sides to it. On one side it was my job as the department manager to ensure that everything seemed very calm relaxed and easy for the customers, and on the other side there was behind the scenes where it was a very chaotic and a fast moving job. I had to co ordinate all of the various items to be in the store in time for peoples weddings, deal with problems with the different dry cleaners (of which I went through a few) and make sure every little detail was over looked and corrected in time for peoples wedding day.
After years of passionately giving the highest standards of service that I could (some times it went wrong, but I always did my best to correct or control it), people were always telling me that I should be doing something for myself. I started to look at what I could do and kept coming across people who had bad experiences with well known dry cleaners, and I also came across people who used ironing services. When I inspected the ironing let’s say I was not impressed and certainly wouldn’t pay for it, and so Best Ironing was born.
